All you’re really doing is speaking and giving someone money.
It’s legal to speak.
It’s legal to give someone money.
Even if they actually complete the job, you’re not the one who committed the murder.
So why is it illegal to hire a hit man?
Could it be because inciting violence is not protected under free speech?
And if that’s the case, why should free speech protect Nazis advocating genocide?
Never reblogged something harder in my life
i’m sorry but this is the worst argument i have ever seen for banning certain types of speech.
1) “it’s legal to speak, it’s legal to give someone money” uhhhh not in every case, buddy. things like bribery and blackmail can be illegal. if you pay someone to call a bomb threat to a school, also illegal. none of these are cases where violence is being incited.
2) contract killing is like, such a special case of words leading to killing? maybe the absolute worst thing to try to equate to hatespeech? the reasons why contract killing is illegal have absolutely nothing to do with making it illegal to incite violence with speech.
3) arguing from example, like “we ban this type of violence-inciting speech so why not also this other type of violence-inciting speech?”, is such a bad move! come on! even if contract killing and genocide talk were anything alike (they’re not), legal precedent is not near as compelling as actual ethical arguments about why it’s impermissible to tolerate genocide advocacy in our society.
Stan Lee died today. I can’t say I know a whole lot about him, but I’m really grateful for the characters he brought into my life.
This is a meager offering, but here’s the one Jean & Scott that I didn’t publish online yet, which I’m posting now to commemorate Stan’s legacy. Thank you to everyone who’s been into this comic. And thanks, Mr. Lee.
